PESHAWAR

PESHAWAR or PESHAWUR is the capital city of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the administrative centre for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan.

This city is situated on the frontier, and centre of trade with Afghanistan, is 10 m. from the entrance of the
Khyber Pass, on the Kabul River, and though ill-fortified had been a bulwark of the British empire, being provided with a large garrison of infantry and artillery.

When India became independent in 1947, and Pakistan as an independent country carved out of it, this town became part of Pakistan.
