PHINEAS FLETCHER, poet, brother of John Fletcher; was rector of Hilgay, Norfolk; celebrated for his poem the "Purple Island, or the Isle of Man," an ingenious allegory descriptive of the human body - i. e. the Purple Island - and its vices and virtues.
