Pierre Gustave Toutant Beauregard
Pierre Gustave Toutant Beauregard (1818-1893), popularly known as P G T Beauregard, was an American Confederate general, born at New Orleans, adopted the cause of the South, and fought in its behalf. He served as superintendent of the US Military Academy at West Point but resigned in 1861 to join the Confederacy. The Civil War official began with the Confederate attack on Fort Sumter, which he commanded.
