!Pravakar Biruni Pravakar Biruni was a freedom fighter of India who suffered imprisonment and was put to cellular jail in Andamans. Born on 17.02.1898 at Maliara in Bankura district of West Bengal. The son of late Shashibhushan Biruni, is known for his sacrifice for the country. He participated in the civil disobedience movement in 1930. He also came in touch with Anusheelan Samity. The British government arrested him on 28.08.1934 and was subsequently convicted under Arms act for 5 years of rigorous imprisonment and was deported to Cellular jail, Andamans. In the Andaman jail, he participated in the second hunger strike of 1937 in the month of July which was of the duration of 37 days. In 1939, he was released form jail. Total jail period was more than 5 years. He received Tamra Patra (an honorary copperplate engraving) from the then prime minister Mrs Indira Gandhi for his dedication and actions in Indian Freedom Movement. He died in 1976.
