!Rajgir Rajgir is a small town in the state of Bihar in India. It is located at about 19 km from ((Nalanda)) in a valley and has lush green forest. There are many temples and monasteries. The ancient name of this town was Rajgrih, literally the palace of the king. There is also a famous warm water pond, the water of which is said to medicinal properties that helps cure of many skin diseases. It was the ancient capital of Magadha Empire, also known as the Magadh Mahajanpad. Lord Buddha often visited the monastery here to meditate and to preach. Rajgir is also a place sacred to the Jains, since Lord Mahavira spent many years here. Buddha not only spent many years in Rajgir but also delivered sermons here and proselytized emperor Bimbisar at the Griddhakoota hill. The Jivekarmavan monastery was the favorite residence for Buddha. Even Bimbisar gave Venuvan Vihar to Buddha for his residence. It is said that it was at Rajgir that physician treated Buddha, Jivak after he was injured by his cousin Devdatta.The teachings of Buddha was penned down at Rajgir and it was also the venue for the first Buddhist Council. Rajgir also has some very beautiful Hindu and Jain temples. There is also a ropeway to the Shanti Stupa and some monasteries built Japanese Devotees on top of the Ratnagiri hills.
