Ralph Ellison
Ralph Ellison (1914-1994) was a US writer who was one of the most influential African American writers, critics and essayists. He is known for his single novel Invisible Man, which won National Book Award in 1953. Earlier he was a musician, a jazz trumpeter. He held many academic positions, including Albert Schweitzer Professor of the Humanities at New York University (1970-1979).
