RENÉ DUGUAY-TROUIN

RENÉ DUGUAY-TROUIN (1673-1736), a celebrated French sea-captain, born at St. Malo; distinguished at first in privateer warfare during the reign of Louis XIV., and afterwards as a frigate captain in the royal navy, to which the royal favour promoted him; was much beloved by the sailors and subordinate officers; died poor.
