Roaring Forties

Roaring forties is a term in geography for a sailor's term for the Atlantic in the northern hemisphere lying between 40° and 50°N latitude, so called from the storms often encountered there. It also refers to the corresponding line in the southern hemisphere lying 40° S latitude.
