Rupnagar
Rupnagar is a district in the State of Punjab in India. The district derives its name from its headquarter town of the same name.The district lies between north latitude 30°-32' and 31°-24' and east longitude 76°-18' and 76°-55'.
The district adjoins Nawanshahar, Mohali and Fatehgarh Sahib Districts of Punjab. The district has four subdivisions, four tehsils, five development blocks and 624 villages.
History
Formerly known as Ropar, the town of Rupnagar is said to have been founded by a Raja called Rokeshar, who ruled during the 11th century and named it after his son Rup Sen. However, the history of the district can be traced to Harappan era.The district was carved out on 1st November , 1966 at the time of re-organization of states.
