Serchhip

Serchhip is a district in the State of Mizoram in India. The district is located at 23.3° N 92.83° E and bounded by Champhai District in the East, Aizawl District in the North and North West, Mamit District in the West and Lunglei District in the South. It also shares a short boundary with Mynmar.

Area of the district is 1421.60 sq km. Population as per Census 2001 was 53861.

The District is divided into 3(three) Sub-Divisions viz. Serchhip Sadar, North Vanlaiphai and Thenzawl. There are 2(two) Rural Development Blocks - Serchhip and East Lungdar RD Blocks. There are 42 Villages within the District.

History

Serchhip District came into being on 15th September, 1998. Prior to this, Serchhip was only a Rural Development Block Headquarter.
