Siout or Asioot
Siout (also Syowt, Asioot, or Asyut) is an ancient city in Egypt. It was the capital of Upper Egypt, but now the capital of Asyūṭ Governorate in Egypt. It commands a fine view near the Nile, 200 miles Soth of Cairo. It has a few imposing mosques and a government palace. It has been a caravan station, and noted for its red and black pottery.
