Sir Edward Coke
Sir Edward Coke (1552-1634) was Lord Chief-Justice of England, born at Milcham, Norfolk. Being a learned lawyer, he rose rapidly at the bar and in offices connected therewith, and became Lord Chief-Justice in 1613. He was, however, deposed in 1617 for opposing the king's wishes. He sat in his first and third Parliaments, and took a leading part in drawing up the Petition of Rights. He spent the last three years of his life in revising his works, his "Institutes," known as "Coke upon Littleton," and his valuable "Reports".Wisdom & Quotes
