Sir Edward Victor Appleton

Sir Edward Victor Appleton (1892-1965) was an English physicist and Nobel Laureate. He is known for his discovery of a region of ionized gases that is name 'the Appleton layer' after him. The Appleton layer is in the atmosphere of the earth above the Heaviside or E layer. He was awarded Nobel Prize for physics in 1947.
