!Sivasagar district
Sivasagar, also spelled Sibsaga, is a district in the state of Assam in India. It was earlier known as Rangpur. The district derives its name from its headquarters town of the same name. It is located between 94°25' - 95°25' East Longitude and 21°45' - 27°15' North Latitude. The district is bounded in the east by Dibrugarh District, in the west by Jorhat District, in the north by Bramhaputra, and in the south by Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.
The districts covers an area of 2668 square kilometers. Population of the district as per census 2011 was 1151050. It comprises three sub-divisions – Sivasagar, Charaideo and Nazira. There are nine development blocks and 881 villages, out of which 12 are uninhabited.
Sivsagar, the historical city of Assam, is situated 363 km east of Guwahati and 55 km east of Jorhat, was the capital of the mighty Ahoms who ruled Assam for more than six hundred years before the advent of the British.
