Sligo

Sligo is a the county town of the county of the same name in Ireland. Sligo is a maritime county of North-West Ireland, in the province of Connaught. It fronts the Atlantic on the North between Mayo (West) and Leitrim (East), Roscommon forming the South boundary. The land, sloping North to the coast from the Ox Mountains, is chiefly under grass for cattle pasture, and divided into small holdings. Sligo Bay is a fine sheet of water, and in the South and East are the picturesque Loughs Arrow and Gill. The manufacture of coarse woollens and linens and fishing are the principal industries. The Moy, Owenmore, and Garvogue are navigable rivers.

The county town Sligo stands at the mouth of the Garvogue, 137 miles North-West of Dublin. It has ruins of a 13th-century Dominican abbey, a Roman Catholic cathedral, and exports cattle, corn, butter, &c.
