Socratic Irony

Socratic Irony is the name given to a practice of Socrates with pretentious people. "Affecting ignorance and pretending to solicit information, he was in the habit of turning round upon the sciolist and confounding his presumption, both by the unlooked-for consequences he educed by his incessant questions and by the glaring contradictions the other was in the end landed by his admissions."
