Wisdom & Quotes

  • A king should avoid untruth and treachery, illicit intercourse with women, and eating what is forbidden. He should shun envy and contact with outcasts, revere all the gods, and satisfy cows and brahmins, revere his ancestors and feed his guests, obey his preceptors, practice penance and bathe in sacred waters. He should nourish the poor, and the orphan and widows, the afflicted, and his kin, and his servants, and protect those who come to him to refuge. These are the twenty conditions of a successful reign.
