Srikalahasti

Srikalahasti is a town close to Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh in India. It is situated on the banks of Swarnamukhi River. It is one of the important sites for ancient Shiva temple.

The Srikalahasti Temple is situated between the banks of the river and the foot of the neighbouring hills. It is also known as Dakshina Kailasam, because of its being Lord Siva's abode. It is worth mentioning here that the Mount Kailash is in the Himalayas in the noth of India, which is said to be the abode of Lord Siva.

The temple has three majestic towers with an ornate and beautiful architecture.

The original temple was constructed during the Pallava Dynasty. However, the present temple was built in the 11th century during the reign of the Chola Dynasty. The massive 100-pillared mantapam was constructed in the 16th century by Krishnadevaraya.
