!Srisailam
Srisailam is a town in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh in India. It is considered to be a holy town, and is one of the most important Hindu places of pilgrimage in Andhra Pradesh. It is located on top of the Nallamala Hills on the right banks of Krishna River, about 212 kilometres south of Hyderabad. The hill is a popular pilgrimage site for Shaivites.
It has the 14th-16th century Mallikarjuna temple, also known as Srisailam Temple, and the 16th century Uma Mahaeswara temple. The temples are dedicated to Shiv and are built in Vijayanagara style. Their walls have exquisitely carved panels depicting mythological subjects. The unique feature of this temple is that it houses both the Jyothirlingam and Mahasakthi which is rarely found in Shaivite temples.
Bhramaramba Mallikarjunaswamy Temple is located at a height of 457 metres. It was built during the reign of King Harihara Raya from the Vijayanagar Dynasty. It is home to one of the twelve Jyothirlingas found in India. The sanctum sanctorum is shaped like a shell and enshrines Lord Mallikarjuna.
The area is also a forest sanctuary, and the Srisailam dam about 512 metres in length and lies at an elevation of 300 metres. This dam spans the Krishna River and is located in a deep canyon in the forest of the hills.
