ST. ALBAN

ST. ALBAN (3rd century) was the first English Christian martyr in Britain to the Christian faith in 303. He was put to death for sheltering a fugitive priest. He is represented in art as carrying his head between his hands, having been beheaded.

He was a native of Verulamium, now St Albans. Feast day, June 22.
