St. Andrew

St. Andrew, the brother of St. Peter, was one of the Apostles who suffered martyrdom by crucifixion. The cross on which he was crucified was of X shaped and therefore the X-shaped cross is associated with him. Later, he became the patron saint of Scotland, and of Russia. He is represented in art as an old man with long white hair and a beard, holding the Gospel in his right hand, and leaning on a transverse cross.

The Feast Day in his memory is November 30.
