St Bernard

St Bernard (c. 996 — c. 1081) was a French monk known for founding two hospices for travelers in the Alps. Those hospices were situated in the passes now named after him the 'St Bernard' passes. Once the monks kept a breed of a dog that were trained to aid travelers. The dogs are also named after him 'St Bernard' dogs. Feast day in his memory is celebrated on May 28.
