Stéphane Mallarmé

Stéphane Mallarmé (1842 - 1898), pen name of Étienne Mallarmé, was a French poet known as the master of the symbolist writers in France. He was greatly removed from the general public on account of his poetic theories and difficult, allusive poems, however, was intensely admired for the same reason within the circle of his initiates. His works anticipated and inspired several revolutionary artistic schools of the early 20th century, such as Cubism, Futurism, Dadaism, and Surrealism.
