Svarga

Svarga, also spelled Swarga or Swerga, is the name of the abode of gods in general according to Hindu mythology. It is the heaven the abode of Indra, the king of gods. It is situated on the summit of Mount Meru, and can be called the Hindu Olympus if compared to the Olympus of the Greek mythology. It is said that only gods, goddesses, and apsaras (celestial beauties) reside in Svarga. The residents of Svarga are always young, never become old. They don't beget children. There is only happiness. Miseries never enter there. As for the emotions, the residents are influenced by one or more of them, such as love, envy, anger, and so on.

It seems that the ancient Indians had thought about their gods and goddesses in the same way as the ancient Grecian. Gods and goddesses were sometimes found fighting with each other and took sides with their favourites.

Svarga is imagined as the happiest place in the universe and is conceived as without miseries. However, analysis of the characters of the gods contradicts this very conception.
