Tapovan is situated 10 km away from Deoghar in Jharkhand, India. There is a temple of Shiva which is called Taponath Mahadeva. There are number of caves on this hill. In one of the caves, a Shiva lingam is installed. This hill is called Tapovan due to many stories of penance by saints are attatched to it. It is said that Sage Valmiki came here for penance, Sri Sri Balananda Brahmachari obtained Siddhi here and it was the place of meditation for the Nagas. This place was also a military centre in ancient Inda. Here we find an inscription Shri Deo Narayan Pal. Legends say that devotees visiting Tapovana, get the fruits of Baidyanath Darshan. There is cracked rock here which is famous for a portrait of Hanuman inside. The space is too narrow to push a brush inside, and yet there is a portrait! Its amazing. There is a Kund at the foothill called Shukta Kund or Sita Kund. The goddess Sita was said to have used this kund to take bath.
