Tarnov
Tarnov, also spelled Tarnów, is a city in Poland. It is situated on the Biala, 48 miles South-East of Cracow. After the first partition of Poland in 1772, was annexed by the Habsburg Empire, and remained in Austrian Galicia until late 1918. It was one of the first Polish cities to be freed during the rebirth of Poland following World War I. During World War II it came under German occupation, and in 1945 Red Army captured it, only to be restored to Poland. It is the see of a bishop, with cathedral, monastery, etc. It has been known for manufacturing linen and leather.Nearby pages
