The Balkans

The Balkans is a term that is applied for both the Balkan Mountains and the countries occupying the part of the land in southeastern Europe lying south of the Danube and Sava rivers.

The mountain range extends from the Adriatic, the Serbian frontier, across Bulgaria, to the Black Sea, properly the range dividing Bulgaria from Roumania. Its mean height is 6500 ft. Botev Peak is its highest peak having a height of 7,793 feet (2,375 meter).

The land that is occupied by the countries, collectively called the Balkans, forms the Balkan peninsula.
