Thomas Hood

Thomas Hood (1799-1845) was an English poet and humourist, born in London. He gave up business and engraving, to which he first applied himself, for letters, and commencing as a journalist, immortalised himself by the "Song of the Shirt" and his "Dream of Eugene Aram". He edited the "Comic Annual," and wrote "Whims and Oddities," in all of which he displayed both wit and pathos.

Stand shadowless like silence, listening
To silence.

The house where I was born,
The little window where the sun
Came peeping in at morn.
