Tiger Reserve Palamu is one of the most important wildlife sanctuary of Palamu division. It is in Betla forest area that is only 25 kilometres from Daltonganj, the district headquarter of Palamu in Jharkhand in India. It may be mentioned here that ((Betla National Park)) is now in Latehar district which has been carved out of Palamu district. Betla is most important forest area of Jharkhand having luxiuriant Sal and other trees. There are also bamboo forests. A total area of 226 sq. kms of Betla forest has been declared as Betla National Park of which 753 sq. kms. has been declared as Palamu Sanctuary. The forest starts from Kechki and extended up to Neterhat. The forest has 970 species of identified plants, 174 species of birds, 39 species of Mammals, 180 species of Medicinal plants, besides reptiles and other species.
