!Tirupati Tirupati is a town at the foot of the Tirumala hills in the Chittoor district of the State of Andhra Pradesh in India. It is located at the southernmost corner of the Eastern Ghats, surrounded by seven hills, adorned by several perennial waterfalls, verdant forests and beautiful valleys. With numerous temples, the town is also known as a temple town. The town is the gateway to Tirumala Venkateshwara (Vishnu) temple, an age-old temple of Lord Sri Venkateswara. The temple is situated at the top of a hill and is richest in world. The outer walls of the sanctum sanctorum are enveloped in a sheet of pure gold. The other famous temple here is Govindaraja temple built during 14th - 17th century. This temple is dedicated to Vishnu. The architecture here is of Vijayanagara style. Besides the Sri Venkateswara Temple, other shrines located in the region include the Sri Govindrajaswamy Temple, Sri Kondandaramaswami Temple, Sri Kapileswaraswami Temple and the Sri Kalyana Venkateswaraswami Temple. The town is also famous for its wooden toys, which are made from a type of red wood.
