Tower of Babel

Tower of Babel, was a tower being built in an attempt to reach heaven. In Hebrew, Babel meant Babylon, which came from Akkadian 'bab ili' meant 'gate of god'. According to the story in the Holy Bible, Genesis 11:1-9, the rulers of Babylon planned to make a tower to heaven, and then started its construction. God frustrated the effort by confusing the languages of its builders resulting in their not understanding one another. The tower could not be completed and finally it fell down causing great destruction of human lives and properties.
