TRAVANCORE

TRAVANCORE was a native State in South India, under British protection between 1729 and 1949 situated between the Western Ghâts and the Arabian Sea. It was connected with the Madras Presidency, traversed by spurs of the Western Ghâts, beyond which, westward, is a plain 10 m. wide, covered with coco-nut and areca palms; the population mainly Hindus; there were native Christians and some black Jews; Trivandrum was the capital.
