Udalguri district

Udalguri is a district in the state of Assam in India. It is located between Latitude 26°46'N - 27°77'N and Longitude 92°8'E - 95°15'E.

It was formed on June 14, 2004 as one of the four districts under the Bodoland Territorial Council. This district was carved out by bifurcating Darrang district. Udalguri town is the largest town in the district, with an area of 4.69 sq km. The district is spread over an area of 1852.16 sq km. Population of the district as per census 2011 was 831,688.

The name of the district is derived from its headquarters, Udalguri. The name of “Udalguri”, according to legend, owes its origin to the fact that there were large numbers of “Odal” trees in this region.

This district is home to Rajiv Gandhi Orang National Park, the oldest game reserve in Assam, Bornadi Wildlife Sanctuary and Bhairabkunda.

There are two subdivisions Bhergaon & Udalguri, 11 development blocks - Udalguri, Mazbat, Khoirabari, Bhergaon, Rowta, Kalaigaon, Bechimari, Pub-Mangaldai, Pachim- Mangaldai, Borsola, Dalgaon-Sialmari, and 802 villages in the district.
