Ugratara Temple

Ugratara Temple of Guwahati is in Kamrup Metropolitan district of Assam in India. It is a famous Shakti shrine. Goddess Ugra Tara is the residing deity of this temple, who is considered to be another form of Parvati. It is believed that the shrine has been built on the spot where the naval of Sati fell on earth when Lord Shiva was carrying her dead body on his shoulder.

It was built by King Shiva Singh of the Ahom Kingdom in 1725.

The temple has a tank, known as Jor Pukhuri, which is located in the east of this temple.

An other legend relates this temple with Buddhism. In addition, it is also related to Eka Jata and Tiksna Kanta of the Buddhist pantheon.
