Umga Temples
Umga Temples are a series of temples in the Umga hill of Aurangabad district of Bihar in India, situated at about 27 km from Aurangabad town, and about 12 km from Deo. These are among the most important archaeological heritage of Bihar.Ruins of several temples are found at Umga hill. The main temple that exist today is 68.60 ft in length and 53 ft in width. The height of the temple is about 60 ft. The deity in the sanctum sanctorum is the Sun god. At the entrance of the temple, there is a Shivaling and an idol of the Ganesh, both on the left hand side. On the right hand side, there is an inscription on black stone. All the idols are also made of black stone found in the area. The art indicates that they are of Pal era. The other temples include the Temple of Thousand Shivaling and the Dhvansa Temple.
The inscription contains the names of the kings beginning from Bhumipas to Bhairavendra. It was written that the king Bhairavendra had built the temple and established the idols of Lord Krishna, Balbhadra and Subhadra.
