!URANUS Uranus is the seventh, the outermost planet of our solar system. Its diameter is 52,096 kms (32,560 miles). It has 15 satellites. It orbits the sun in 84 years and its average distance from the sun is 2,852.8 million kms (1,783 million miles). This is the only planet of the solar system that lies on its side. One pole after the other faces the sun as it moves round it. This water Uranus has nine dark compact rings around. It has a corkscrew shaped magnetic field. It has four times the diameter of the earth. It was discovered in 1781 by Herschel, and called by him Georgium Sidus in honour of George III.
