Vale of Tempe

Vale of Tempe is a valley, rather a gorge, in Greece, in the North-East of Thessaly, lying between Olympus on the North and Ossa on the South. It is traversed by the river Peneus, and for the beauty of its scenery celebrated by the Greek poets as a favourite haunt of Apollo and the Muses. It is less than 5 miles in length, and opens eastward into a spacious plain.
