!VENUS Venus is the second planet of the Solar system. Its diameter is 12,032 kms (7,520 miles). It has no satellites or moons. Its average distance to the sun is 107.52 million kms (67.2 million miles). It orbits the sun in 225 days. This planet is perpetually veiled behind reflective sulphuric acid clouds and carbon dioxide environment. It has both flat and rocky plains and there are signs of volcanic activities. It revolves in an orbit outside that of Mercury and within that of the earth. While it takes 23¼ hours to rotate on its own axis; it is the brightest of the heavenly bodies, and appears in the sky now as the morning star, now as the evening star, according as it rises before the sun or sets after it, so that it is always seen either in the E. or the W.; when right between us and the sun it is seen moving as a black spot on the sun's disk, a phenomenon known as "Transit of Venus", which occurs after 105½ years.
