Videh was a title enjoyed by the kings of Mithila in ancient India.

According to Indian mythology, this was a hereditary title on account of their being ruling over the territory of Videh (Mithila) without any interest in the self.

King Janak was also a man of wisdom and had, therefore, no feeling of self-identification with the body.
