Walter Baade

Walter Baade (1893-1960), full name Wilhelm Heinrich Walter Baade, was a German born US astronomer. He is known for his great contribution in astronomy including the proof of the Andromeda galaxy to be much farther away than had earlier been thought which implied that the universe was much older and more extensive than had been believed. His another great contribution was relating to the life cycles of the stars, that provided greater understanding.
