Washington Allston
Washington Allston (1779-1843) was an American landscape painter and poet, whose genius was much admired by Coleridge. He was the first major US artist of the American romantic movement. His famous works are: the Deluge (1804), Belshazzar's Feast (1817-43), and Moonlit Landscape (1819). Allston had a taste for the monumental, apocalyptic, and melodramatic, which was prominently exhibited in his paintings.Nearby pages
