Welsh Calvinistic Methodists

Welsh Calvinistic Methodists are the largest Nonconformist body in Wales, of native growth, and that originated in 1735, in connection with a great religious awakening. It has an ecclesiastical constitution on Presbyterian lines, and is in alliance with the Presbyterian Church of England. They spread their missionary work is several parts of the world, including India and the United States. By the beginning of 20th century, it had 1330 churches, and had a membership of over 150,000, that was, on their communion roll, and two theological seminaries, one at Trevecca and one at Bala. The 'Calvinistic Methodist or Presbyterian Church of Wales Act 1933' created a legal identity for the church. In 1995 it consisted of 939 churches (of which 219 were English), employed 119 full time ministers, and had 51,720 members.
