William Harvey

William Harvey (1578-1657) was a celebrated English physician, born at Folkestone, in Kent. He graduated at Cambridge, and in 1602 received his medical diploma at Padua. Settling in London, he in a few years became physician to St. Bartholomew's Hospital, and subsequently lecturer at the College of Physicians. In 1628, he announced in a published treatise his discovery of the circulation of the blood. For many years he was Court physician, and attended Charles I at the battle of Edgehill.
