William R Tolbert Jr

William R Tolbert Jr (1913-1980) was a Liberian politician. He was active both in Baptist church and politics. He became vice-president for six four-year terms (1951-1971) and then president after death of President Tubman in 1971. He was elected president in 1975. He is known for promoting national unity and launching educational and economic reforms. He was eventually killed during a coup.
