Yuri Andropov

Yuri Andropov (1914-84), full name Yuri Vladimirovich Andropov, was a statesman and general secretary of the Communist Party of the former Soviet Union during 1982-84 and president during 1983-84. He is known for his reform agenda which he initiated during his tenure. It was the reform process which was carried out by his successor Mikhail Gorbachev.
