Zara

Zara, Zadar in modern Croatian, was the capital city of Dalmatia, and a seaport of Austria, on a promontory on the coast, 129 miles South-East of Trieste. It was founded by the Venetians, has a spacious harbour, was strongly fortified, and the chief manufactures are glass and a liqueur called maraschino.

Zadar is currently a city Croatia. It is the seat of Zadar County and of the wider northern Dalmatian region.
