Mulayam Singh Yadav, who gets feedback from ground workers, has repeatedly warned his chief minister son Akhilesh Yadav and other important leaders that they should work hard or face to be defeated in assembly polls.
Recently, on the occasion of 83rd birth anniversary of Janeshwar Mishra, Mulayam Singh Yadav told ministers that they would be defeated if they did into come out of their AC rooms.
SP supremo said that ground level workers panted very dismal picture of the party in view of 2017 polls.
Mulayam said that his party leaders were cut off from the public and their problems, which would be very counter-productive.
Samajwadi Party national president has yet not recovered from the shock he got with poor performance of party in 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
Mulayam said that it was very difficult to face people in Parliament as only five seats belong to the party; that too won by immediate family members.
What could be a sad commentary on the sate of affairs in Samajwadi Party is that Mulayam had to say that despite his repeated reminders, he had not been sent any report regarding the causes for poor performance of party candidates in Lok Sabha polls.
Shocked by the behaviour of the Samajwadi Party ministers and other important leaders, Mulayam Singh Yadav announced that tainted and non-performers would not be given ticket in assembly polls.
Significantly, Mulayam Singh Yadav made it known when he said that in his opinion party would fight with BJP, which was emerging as a potential threat, and not BSP.
Samajwadi Party has realized the potential threat from Hyderabad-based leader Asaduddin Owaisi and the party workers have been asked to be both beware of him and oppose his entry into UP at all costs.
Although Owaisi, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) member of Lok Sabha from Hyderabad, has been making his intentions of entering Uttar Pradesh known for quite some time, Samajwadi Party has been dismissive of his claims. But recently at party meetings, the senior leaders have asked party workers to oppose Owaisi.
It would be worth mentioning here that during his visit to Meerut and Agra in July, Owaisi had received a rousing reception from members of the Muslim community, especially the youth. He had also announced that his party would definitely contest the 2017 Assembly election in Uttar Pradesh, although he did not specify how many and which seats the party will contest. His recent statements against the hanging of Yakub Memon and demand for death sentence in all similar cases had evoked support from many sections.
Although senior Muslim leaders of party including health minister Ahmad Hasan and urban development Minister Mohd Azam Khan brand Owaisi as a BJP agent. But the fact remains that Samajwadi Party government has denied permission to hold public meeting in the state.
In order to energize the party workers, Mulayam Singh and Akhilesh Yadav revived the cycle yatra all over the state to spread the achievements of Akhilesh Yadav government at grass root level.
Political analysts feel that only cycle yatra alone would not help the party if no corrective steps were taken to improve law and order and contain party workers from roguish behaviour. Moreover, without control over the bureaucracy, which was working as a separate entity, it would be difficult to face assembly polls in 2017. (IPA Service)
