While the Conservative Party led by the Prime Minister Theresa May is neckdeep in a factional battle over the leadership and how to deal with the ultra conservative partner DUP for a minimum programme, a buoyant and confident Corbyn has spelled out in clear terms that the June 8 verdict is against the May government and the Prime Minister has to resign to respect that mandate of the British people. What is significant is that after the grand performance of the Labour in the elections as against the Conservatives, the erstwhile anti-Corbyn elements within the Labour Party, especially the supporters of Tony Blair, have changed their tone and are saying that Corbyn now is the best guarantee of a Labour victory in the next elections.
The picture in the Labour camp is full of action and planning as thousands of new activists are determined to bring victory to the Labour in the immediate period since they are sure that with some extra efforts, the May regime will collapse and the Conservatives have nothing new to offer to the British people now to extract their support. John McDonnel, the shadow chancellor said that the Labour will use every parliamentary device to block Tory proposals and pass its own manifesto commitments into law. Labour has approached the other political parties for cooperation and there is a move to prevent the passage of the Queen’s speech in Parliament.
The Left line has been vindicated in the Labour Party as also the winnability of Jeremy Corbyn. As a result, there is massive unity in the Labour ranks and the trade union activists along with the local workers of the Labour Party, have renewed campaigns in favour of the new Labour Programme for transforming Britain with great vigour so that the momentum that has been generated, is not lost in any manner. The strength of the Labour leadership is that the May leadership has proved itself rank opportunist and hungry for power and they are keeping their deals with the DUP as a secret. Nobody knows officially on what terms May is negotiating with the terror linked DUP
As per the Labour strategy, the Party leaders would coordinate with the other opposition parties in the floor of Parliament and defeat any controversial proposals brought by the minority May government. Corbyn has decided to give more teeth to the functioning of his shadow cabinet and he is trying to ensure that the members of his shadow cabinet perform in such a way by projecting their pro people programmes that the rickety May administration gets cornered on every issue in the House of Commons.
What is heartening to Labour is that the weak Prime Minister might drop some programmes of her own Party in the Queen’s speech to retain the support of DUP and this might anger a number of her Party MPs. The problem for May is that she is compromising with a hyper regionalist Party for the survival of her government and in the process she has to pay a heavy price at the cost of her own Party base. The common programme on which the Prime Minister is working with DUP, will be the te4sting ground for May in Parliament and it will decide whether her government will continue till the end of this year.
Labour Party sources say that for all practical purposes, the leadership issue in the Labour Party is settled once for all and the fight of the Labour is focused solely against the May government to ensure that this government which has been formed through unprincipled alliance, can not harm the interests of the British masses. Corbyn is confident that the Labour has the upper hand now and the May Government will have no option but to agree to some of the demands which are a part of the Labour manifesto. The appeal of the Labour’s election manifesto has been all pervasive encompassing even the supporters of the Conservative Party. The Labour groups now plan to take this campaign for a new Britain to the strongholds of the Tories since the elections will not be far away. (IPA Service)

A week after the shock defeat of the Tories in the general elections, the British politics continues to undergo great churning. While the Prime Minister Theresa May is busy cobbling a majority with the ten members of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), the most discredited political Party in the United Kingdom, the Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn is going from strength to strength in the post-election period. The latest survey done by the pro-Tory The Telegraph newspapers projects a lead of five per cent in favour of the Labour as against the Tories if the elections are held now. The other surveys are projecting higher leads in favour of Labour Party thereby indicating that the popular mood is now favouring a change.
