The Congress could win only one Lok Sabha seat out of the twenty nine constituencies. The Congress could win Chhindwara which was held by Kamal Nath since 1980. This time Nakul Nath, son of Kamal Nath was elected to the Lower House. It is for the second time that the party suffered such a humiliating defeat. It was in 1977 when the Congress was defeated in all the Lok Sabha constituencies barring one. Incidentally that constituency was Chhindwara.
While reviewing the causes of defeat most serious allegation has been made by Prahlad Singh Tipania, candidate from Dewas. Padmshree Tipania is a reputed Kabir folk singer. He accused the Congress leaders of keeping step motherly attitude towards Dalits. “They behave like a upper caste person” he said at a review meeting held in Indore in the presence of AICC observer Sanjay Kapoor. Tipania said that Congress neglected the constituencies from which SC and ST candidates were contesting. The party also does not provide adequate resources to such candidates. He also said that Congress also suffers from several organisational weaknesses. The BJP is far superior in this respect.
Besides review meeting held in Indore a similar meeting was held in Bhopal in which results of Rewa, Satna and Sidhi constituencies were reviewed. Sidhi was a high profile constituency from where Ajay Singh, former leader of opposition in assembly contested and lost. Speaking at the meeting he said that defeats in elections do happen. But the margin of defeat was so big which requires in depth enquiry. The meeting was told that choice for Rewa seat was not proper.
Besides Congress even some winning BJP candidates are also annoyed with activities of their party men. Ganesh Singh, who won from Satna alleged that some party men were found hand in glove with Congress and tried their best to defeat him in the election.
Besides review of election results mass transfers by Kamal Nath government have given an opportunity to the opposition to mount attack on the Kamal Nath government.
The BJP slammed the state government for transferring 61 IAS and over 76 IPS officers in the last five months. BJP leaders said that the mass transfers are being affected as the Congress led Kamal Nath government feels insecure, besides suffering from internal feud.
BJP state president Rakesh Singh said “Congress leaders are themselves not sure about the stability of Kamal Nath government. The mass transfers just after the Lok Sabha elections in the state indicate that Congress is apprehensive of the untimely fall of its government”.
He said that the transfer-posting industry is back in business after the Lok Sabha elections and the government has created fear among the employees and officials. “Development has taken a back seat while public welfare has been affected due to lack of any concrete plan” he said.
In the last five months, the Congress government has rejigged all important departments. First in December 2018 to shift officials close to the BJP government. Later in February 2019 to appoint officers of its choice the government made more changes. Yesterday 33 IAS and 37 IPS offices were shifted some of whom had not even worked for two months in the districts.
“There is a massive scam in the transfer business as the entire process has been turned into an industry to extort money from officials and employees for plum positions. The government is also unsure whom to trust as members affiliated to different factions are active in the transfer business” said leader of opposition Gopal Bhargava.
Some officials have been shifted after serving only for a few months on their previous posts. Shailbala Martin, who worked for one-and-a-half month as Collector of Niwari, has been shifted as deputy secretary in Mantralaya. Pankaj Jain worked only for three months as Collector in Katni, Umesh Kumar, Collector of Burhanpur and Rajeev Ranjan Meena, Collector of Neemuch, were shifted within five months of their postings. Shobihit Jain worked as divisional commissioner of Shahdol for only two months. Ganesh Shankar Mishra, Collector of Sehore, Surendra Singh, Collector of Satna, Shamimuddin, Collector of Alirajpur, who were posted in December 2018 were also shifted as deputy secretaries in Mantralaya this month said BJP leader.
“Transfer is a routine process. This time only few officials have been shifted who were either removed during elections waiting a new posting. There is no mass transfer as such” clarified public relations Minister P C Sharma while talking to media persons.(IPA Service)
