It would be worth mentioning that with presence of 20 per cent in total population of Uttar Pradesh the Muslim community plays important role in vote politics. In certain Lok Sabha and assembly constituencies, muslims play decisive role during elections.

Muslim community is aware of the fact that Congress, Samajwadi Party and BSP welcomed the verdict. On the other hand Asauddin Owassi of MIM has openly criticised the verdict. Muslim community is aware of the fact that it had supported Congress for several decades and enjoyed fruits of power and share in the ministry and administration.

It was only after Shilanyas at Ayodhya during regime of N D Tewari, Muslims parted company of Congress. The then CM of UP Mulayam Singh Yadav became hero of Muslim community all over the country when he ordered firing on Kar sewaks at Ayodhya to defend Babri masjid in 1990. Overnight Mulayam Singh Yadav became hero for Muslims who shifted their loyalty to his party and brought him to power in UP several times.

Bahujan Samaj Party and it's leader Mayawati also played Muslim card but could not get big support from the community. Muslims avoided Mayawati because she came to power thrice with the help of BJP.

During 2017 assembly polls, Mayawati played aggressive Muslim card but it backfired as party could not get support from community. On the contrary, Mayawati's strategy helped BJP in consolidation of Hindu votes which resulted in good number of seats.

At present progressive Muslims want to maintain distance from clerics and join hands with national party to safeguard their interests. The opinion is gaining ground in Muslim community that regional parties would not be able safeguard their interests.

At the same time there is a section of Muslim community which is attracted toward firebrand leader Asaduddin Owasi who openly challenge BJP and the Sangh parivar. But Muslims are aware that going with Owassi would help and strengthen BJP and the Sangh parivar.(IPA Service)
